TRAVEL NEWS
The number of flights from outside Italy to the Pugliese airports of Bari and Brindisi have increased considerably this year. As well as the Ryanair flight from London Stanstead to Brindisi, MyAir are flying there from Paris, Geneva and Munich. Jetairfly.com are flying from Brussels to Brindisi twice a week and TuiFly.com from Cologne every Friday.

Ryanair have direct flights to Bari from London, Frankfurt and Malta and Tuifly.com are flying there from Munich, Cologne and Stuttgart. MyAir are flying to Bari from Brussels and Amsterdam while British Airways continue to fly there in twice a week on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Internal flights by EasyJet include a flight seven days a week from Milan Malpensa to Brindisi at the convenient time of 16.40. There also have flights at varying times to Bari from Malpensa as well as flights from Rome. Ryanair have flights from Pisa, Bologna and Alghero to Bari and Bologna to Brindisi.

This all means that travellers will now be able to get connecting flights from Gatwick, Edinburgh and Bristol to Puglia. It is also good news for visitors from the USA, Canada, Australia and other inter continental travellers.


CHARITY EVENING
A great evening was had by all on 31 July 2008 at the gala charity dinner organised by Apuliabella and Gianfranco Aurisicchio. The event with the patronage of the Amici di Ostuni, Comune di Ostuni and Slow Food was primarily to raise funds for the restoration of an altar piece for the church of San Vito Martire in Ostuni which now houses the Museo di Civilità Preclassiche della Murgia Meridionale (Museum of Preclassical Civilization in the Southern Murgia), but it also was an occasion for both the Italian and British communities in Ostuni and district to come together for a good cause.

Approximately 80 people joined us for the evening which included an excellent 5 course meal during which Professor Todisco gave a very interesting talk on the altar piece to be restored and Professor Coppola gave us a short, informative talk on the museum itself.

Light entertainment was in the form of folk music performed by the local group Nero e Bianco who encouraged us all to get up and join in the Pizzica, a traditional Pugliese dance and, as you can see from the photographs, Kevin entered into the spirit with enthusiasm. Nothing to do with the pretty girl singer, of course!

The €820 raised by the event was gratefully received by the museum's board of directors when Carole and Gianfranco presented the cheque in September.
